The Proposal

NCR 594 Proposal

I have decided to commence the NCR594 Project in Wilmington, CA. I picked Wilmington for a number of reasons. Wilmington is, and has been, a community in need for many years. Wilmington’s proximity to the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, its demographics, and the heavy industrialization in the area all lead to problems that can and should be mitigated. I spell this out in the proposal.

There are other reasons that are not in the proposal. I spent many childhood and teenage years growing up in Wilmington. I entered the military from Wilmington and spent many of my adult years living there. I have numerous relatives and friends in the area. All this to say I have a strong connection to the area.

With that connection comes contacts in and knowledge of the area. This will make my job as a trainer and researcher easier because I can use the knowledge and contacts that I already have to make things run a little more quickly and smoothly.I think this will make things easier than if I had to start from scratch.

Though this project is meant to be generalizable to other communities, other sets of demographics, and other circumstances, I have to admit that I am happy to do what I can for the community of Wilmington. It is a place that has affected who I am and how I view the world. Wilmington is a place that haunts my dreams.

Even if the NCR 594 Project ends up as a failure, I will continue to work with the community of Wilmington. My training and experience ought to be of use to somebody there who is working to improve the community. I want to help.
